12 Months to a Healthier You-Body and Mind: JANUARY
Today will mark the first month of a 12 month series to a healthier you! Each month new assignments will be introduced that will assists you in your health journey. The goal is to be healthier than you were before mind, body, and soul by the time 2017 comes to an end.
For January we are going to focus on the mind. When you have the right mind set before you begin any sort of program or tackle any goal, the chances of success increase!
So without further ado…for the month of January the focus will be on Positivity. You will only be focusing on the positive the entire month!
Yikes! I know, I know…pretty tough stuff huh? But I have faith that you can do this. Although we are focusing on health, remember this can pertain to any area of your life. However since health is the focus here, the first thing that will be our focus is to stop focusing on what you don’t like about your body and think of two things that you love about it! It doesn’t have to be a body part per se, but can be your eyes, or your amazing shiny hair, or anything of your choosing. Basically, anything on your body that you like/love.
Now that you’ve pinpointed those things, put more emphasis on them. If you love your eyes, find a really great eyeshadow you like and play around with really making your eyes pop out. Or, take the plunge and ditch those glasses, and finally go for those contact lenses you’ve been thinking about for years. Have great’s legs or skin? Buy some heels, shorts, favorite sundress or whatever to really show them off. Or go buy your favorite exfoliation scrub (I like Simple Sugars brand) and really show off that glowing skin. Their scrubs with the emu oil are awesome! Men, you too can use body scrubs for great skin! Do you always get compliments on your hair? Hopefully you see where I’m going with this by now.
In the next coming months we will focus more on ways to a healthier body, but with a conscious effort to keep up a healthy and positive mindset. The key is to take the entire month to develop and carry out the habit, goal, task, etc. so that it will become a routine and second nature.
Then each month you will be able to build upon what you’ve learned.
Tips for a positive mindset:
-Turn off the news!
There’s way too much drama, negativity and deceit going on. Who wants to be reminded of that every day or subject themselves to that daily?
-Try prayer, meditation, yoga, or all 3!
Whatever your beliefs, quieting your mind and taking the time to reflect and go within is never a bad thing! You can learn so much about yourself.
-Set aside 15 mins. a day to really tune into yourself.
Checking in with yourself every day really helps one to be in tune with self and pinpoint any emotions that may be going on subconsciously. Give yourself 15 mins. to worry about whatever it is that’s bothering you and then let it go. Quit worrying about things you can’t change or have no control over.
-Surround yourself with other positive people.
Ever heard of “birds of a feather flock together”, or “you are the company you keep”? Those sayings were created for a reason. Mainly because they’re true. Let some of that positivity rub off on you from others. Positive energy does wonders for ones’ mind and mood.
-Spend time doing something you love or a hobby.
So much of our lives are taken up by the pressures of work these days that we can sometimes forget about what we enjoy. Maybe you love to paint, play a musical instrument or have always wanted to build the best railway set in the country. Taking some time out to dedicate just to yourself will help you cope with stress, focus your mind and allow you to express yourself. If you are feeling blue, conveying your thoughts in a painting, a song or in a poem will help you understand how you feel and make you feel much better.
-Try a change of scenery
Sometimes we get stuck in a rut, it happens to all of us! Taking a trip is a great way to relax, and see another part of the world. If funds are low or you can’t quit take any time off from work at the moment, there are still ways to “get away”. Try taking a different route to work or rearranging the furniture in your home around to experience something different and new. Or take a short road trip to the nearest city over and go window shopping. Go out and take some pictures of anything that interest you.
-Accept that you are a unique individual
Many people are unhappy or self-conscious about their appearance, the way they speak or their background; comparing themselves to others. Embrace who you are and relish in the fact that there’s no one like you! Comparing yourself to others can lead to feelings of unworthiness and depression. Some people even develop eating disorders. Think about the qualities that make you unique. Accept who you are. Be who you are. Live authentically. Be organically you!
-Care for others
Caring for others will take your mind off of your worries, etc. and will also remind you of just how fortunate you are. There’s nothing like helping someone else to make you feel good about yourself and put things into perspective.
-Above all practice being thankFULL and grateFULL.
“Your body hears everything your mind says-Stay positive”.
See you in February for Healthy Journey Month 2. In the meantime make sure to
Eat well. Be well. Repeat.
