Crazy Times-COVID-19When isolated or quarantined because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is essential that you create and maintain a sense of normalcy. One way to do that is to have a daily routine. This can be the one thing that keeps you grounded and mentally well.
Much of our life is on hold or is occurring in a very different manner than we are accustomed to. Fortunately for us, this isn’t our new normal, but it is our temporary new normal and we need to adapt. Don’t panic, it won’t be like this forever. Instead, focus on what you can control, which is how you spend your time.
Start Your Day with a Healthy Self-Care Routine
A way to maintain a sense of normalcy during the COVID-19 pandemic is by starting your day with a morning routine. Add some simple self-care habits that are easy to do and that are good for your physical and mental health. Think about what you normally do to get ready for the day, things such as taking a shower and brushing your teeth, going through your skincare routine, and drinking a glass of water before your cup of coffee.Exercise
Your self-care might also include doing Yoga or a gentle stretching routine, writing in your journal, or meditating for a few minutes. These things can really help set yourself up for a good day.
Another piece of your new daily routine should be a little bit of exercise. You don’t have to do anything strenuous – this is not the time for advanced fitness challenges. Just try to get your body moving throughout the day, every day. If you have a treadmill or bike at home, use it. Otherwise, talk a walk while maintaining social distancing, do an online workout routine, use simple equipment like dumbbells or resistance bands, or turn on some music and dance in your living room.Get Outside
Enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. Even if you are in isolation or have to stay indoors most of the day, you need fresh air and vitamin D. A vitamin D deficiency can lead to depression among other things so it is essential that you keep your levels in check. You can get vitamin D naturally just from the sun’s UV rays. Step outside and soak up the sun at least a few times a day. You can simply sit on your patio or balcony, go for a short walk, or walk your dogs. This might seem simple, but the activity helps you to get vitamin D, fresh air, and it will help you ground yourself at the same time.Kids’ Routines
Your children also need to maintain as much of a normal life as possible during COVID-19, so keeping them on a daily routine is important. If you are currently in quarantine lockdown, then your routine will also include helping your kids with their schoolwork. Make sure you choose a routine that fits in all the important homeschooling things, such as recess so they get in some physical activity, cooking meals, completing chores, and fitting in fun and self-care time.Maintain Normalcy, Keep Grounded During COVID-19
We are experiencing something unprecedented; something very unsettling for many, but something we CAN cope with and recover from. Implementing the ideas above into a daily routine can help us maintain a sense of normalcy, keep us grounded, and help us feel more in control.
Just remember that soon COVID-19 will be a thing of the past. The things we do day to day will be what determines how well we cope with the temporary situation.
